GARDEN PARADISE – Watercolors

2011-present

The Garden Paradise series was begun in the summer of 2014 and is part of an ongoing body of watercolor paintings. An earlier painting, Big Purple I, 2011 (26 inches by 80 inches) was one of several paintings that brought me to the watercolor medium. I was drawn to this medium for this series so that I could explore depths of transparent to opaque colors, and varied patterned surfaces. These paintings are luminous. Sometimes my palette promotes a range of color relationships that are pared down to vibrant. These compositions focus on bold linear and shape inventions, improvisations, and image fragments. I paint home and studio still objects, and flowers from local gardens. I gravitate to glass, patterns, natural forms, and glazed surfaces. I also look at life from nature: foliage and various plant life forms. There are hidden spatial geometries that build these compositions. These hidden designs create a framework for me to support my intuitive approach to compositions.
